Demand for electric school buses nationwide is increasing, and on November 2, 2023, Gregory Poole Equipment Company delivered a Blue Bird Vision Electric Bus to Old Main STREAM Academy in Pembroke, North Carolina.
The charter school opened in 2021 and will receive a total of three fully electric buses to serve its student body. Old Main STREAM Academy receiving the electric bus is the result of hard work between the school and community partners.
“We are very excited and proud to have the first electric bus in the county,” says Dr. Christopher Clark, the Dean of Old Main STREAM Academy. “It is truly a blessing, and our community and children are going to benefit from the available grants.”
Electric buses have grown in popularity over the years by helping schools save on the cost of fuel and reducing emissions when compared to diesel school buses. Old Main STREAM Academy hopes the new electric bus will help raise local awareness about sustainability.
“It is an opportunity to show not only our students but the surrounding communities that times are changing, and we need to be aware of our environment and taking care of things we are supposed to be stewards of, along with teaching kids a respectful appreciation for that,” Clark tells Gregory Poole.
